Innovation

The Innovation Core at the Weill Cornell Medicine Center for Virtual Care is committed to building industry partnerships that will help advance patient care. The Innovation Core at the Center leverages partners throughout the Cornell University system and coordinates between academics and external entities, fostering an ecosystem of creativity, entrepreneurship, and creative thinking.

In this context, The Innovation Core exists as a platform that encourages the cultivation and execution investigation and product development tailored anchored and guided by clinical needs.

In synergy with the CVC’s educational work, The Innovation Core works to expand clinicians' skills and knowledge and encourage them to play critical roles in driving clinical innovative partnerships, with the goal to elevate the status of clinical end users throughout the process of clinical innovation, a process that includes all aspects of the innovation process, including but not limited to design thinking, prototyping, regulatory processes, intellectual property business strategy and the multiple stages of innovation financing.

The Innovation Core is the home of the Innovation Fellowship, a partnership between Weill Cornell Emergency Medicine in partnership with Jacobs Technion–Cornell Institute at Cornell Tech. This new fellowship will equip Emergency Medicine physicians to become leaders at the intersection of innovation entrepreneurship and healthcare enterprise.  Learn more about the fellowship here.

By building a collaborative framework between innovators and clinical resources, The Innovation Core allows efficient and direct linkage between the innovation space and the realities of clinical practice.

One of the principal ways this is accomplished is by facilitation of clinical research for companies operating within the innovation pipeline. By providing these companies with valuable clinical insights and testing opportunities, the center plays a critical role in accelerating the process of bringing innovative medical solutions from the lab to the patient's bedside.
