New York-Presbyterian Graduate Medical Education Foundational Telemedicine Course

This is a hybrid course combining self-paced online materials with simulation–debrief experience designed to teach the fundamentals of the six telemedicine competencies defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). This is the course that the Center for Virtual Care provides to all first-year residents across the NYP hospitals supported by the WP CareyFoundation.

The course teaches the skills required for self-presentation and professionalism that set the stage for high quality care in synchronous delivery of telemedicine care. Following self-paced online work, students are brought to the Center for Virtual Care in midtown Manhattan for a series of simulations and small group guided debriefs that reinforce the online educational modules. Through this work students learn the fundamentals of technology management, patient safety, remote examination, legal and regulatory frameworks, and equity of access that are dramatically important in this new care space.
